GameCola Comments: New comment on: Gamer Girlfriend (8 - 7) by: Lizo

This was a very interesting article for me to read. I also got hooked on The Sims pretty early on, but my interaction with the game has been very positive overall, even though I am also intimately familiar with the game\'s surreal time-sucking properties--the first time I played the game with my friends, we stayed up practically all night without even realizing it. And I can\'t deny that The Sims has made a lasting impact on my mind, even though I haven\'t played it in years: I definitely still think about some things in terms of meters, for instance.

It\'s possible that my positive impression of The Sims comes mainly from the fact that it became something of a group activity with me and my friends, although I definitely also spent hours of my life playing it by myself.... In any case, it\'s interesting that people can have such widely different reactions to a similar experience.

Also, RE: Sex in The Sims. The Sims 2 introduced an interaction called \"woo hoo,\" which involved two sims plunging under the covers of a bed and rolling around, making occasional animal noises. I don\'t really have a point in bringing up this information, except to say if you thought the interactions in the first game were racy... yeah.

Diet's LiveJournal: on the subject of harry potter --

I have a Harry Potter question.

Ok, so I have been re-reading the Shoebox Project a lot lately. I've kinda become re-obsessed with it actually -- printing out the "photos," typing out the letters between Moony and Pads and then dying the pages with tea and then burning the edges for whatever crazy reasons -- but it's made me wonder.

Now understand that I am not a Harry Potter fan in the sense of the books -- I've watched the movies because my friend always made me and then I always end up get roped into it with my sisters. Anyway. I've been wondering about Harry.

He isn't very much like his father, is he. I mean, he seems to have that "reliable strength" that I get from James from what I've read from Shoebox and the movies and talk, etc. But James was also known for being quite the mischievous prankster along with Sirius; and although Lilly seems to be a bit more level-headed of the two (her and James) she also seems to be quite fiesty in her own way. Harry doesn't seem to be at all like them in that sense.

He seems to be more hesitant, or devilishly wild like James -- I don't know. Perhaps it is because of their two separate upbringings? James had Sirius after all, and there was less foreboding danger when he was in Hogwarts -- Harry all but grew up in a closest and was surrounded by a darkened history. And Hermione was all bookish and sensible and Ron was not one to spring a thousand dungbombs on Draco Malfoy in his sleep -- so it's not like Harry had the same influences that James did either. But even still -- James seems like the type who would have had that adventurous hunger for naughty danger even if he didn't have Sirius around.

Like I said -- I'm no pro on the Harry Potter world, I'm just a Marauders Obsesser. So I'm probably very mis-facted (yes, new word there) and quite ignorant because of it. :)

Fair enough. Maybe someone who REALLY just wants to see Bill Murry as Venkmen has every reason to get excited. On the other hand, I'd really want a great continuation of the original movies, with some awesome gameplay. I don't have a lot of faith that the gameplay will be awesome, though---hence, I'm apprehensive, rather than totally psyched.

GameCola Comments: New comment on: Versus Mode (8 - 6) by: CuddlyColin

Re: Stuff Paul Said

You're confusing why you should get excited for a game and why you shouldn't get your hopes up for EXACTLY what you want. Define "good" and "fun" and "awesome". Your opinion of it can be very different from the next person, so a game that you feel was created just to make a buck could be EXACTLY what someone else wanted :P There's not reason to not be excited about a game like ghostbusters, because excitement and disappointment are a part of life and are especially a part of an industry that's as arbitrary as any entertainment industry. A crappy ghostbusters game that you were excited for might be a minor annoyance, you'll live. :P
